Starfire was painted at a local auto body shop.  The color scheme for Starfire was designed to make it easy for the paint shop.  All three major sections just had to be sprayed with the same color. The color is General Motors "Medium Red Metallic".

Booster section before and after painting.

Body tube before and after painting.

The filler on the fiberglass seam can be clearly seen on the body tube prior to painting.

Upper body tube section before and after painting.
All three parts after painting.  It's starting to look pretty good! Now we just need to apply the decals.

The color scheme and decals were designed using the AutoSketch CAD program. As was everything else about Starfire!  The design files were then used by a local sign shop to cut the vinyl decals to shape

Two yellow stripes are being applied to the forward end of the booster body tube.  Both stripes were on one piece of paper backing.  This made is easy to keep them parallel and spaced the correct distance as they were applied.

The booster stripes are finished.
Next the yellow lettering was added to the fins.

Peeling off the translucent paper to reveal the decals on the fins.

I hate sanding but I love applying decals.  It's the fun part!

First set of fins are done.

The top end of the body tube has a series of horizontal and vertical bars.  The whole set of bars that wraps around the body tube were on one sheet.  That made it very easy to get them all equally spaced.

Looking good.

The nosecone for Starfire was already solid yellow plastic.  The yellow decals were selected to match it.  The body color was then selected to complete the picture.
